Miss Universe channels ninja... or whatever

Okay, this is Kurara Chibana, the Japanese contestant in the Miss Universe 2006. She showed up looking like this for the "native dress" section of the pageant.... Yeah, right. Our great-grandmothers wore something like this every day. Oh whatever, she could have done much worse (hint: Memoirs of a Geisha).

- What exactly were they thinking? I mean, ok, Mis Universe isn't exactly the most politically correct contest in the world, but doesn't this sort of thing just enhance western stereotypes? Or maybe I'm reading too much into it.
She is kinda hot in it though ;)

- First runner-up
- "Kurara Chibana will assume the duties of MISS UNIVERSE 2006 if the titleholder for some reason cannot fulfill her responsibilities...," says the press release. The main event took place Sunday night.
Now her costume will be known as the authentic Japanese ethnic dress...
