Real Beauty campaign is in Tokyo (though not very real)

That's right. Something I've been waiting for since last year, when I read a People magazine article about that Dove's Real Beauty campaign with non-model models. I heard then that they were going to extend the campaign to my town. Finally, we were going to see "realistic" models in Japanese ads!
But. They let me down. See the photos above. Compare the US and the Japanese versions.
Japanese non-model models all have flat tummies, perfectly smooth skin, beautiful hair -- not that American non-model models are not beautiful because my god, every woman is beautiful.
Of course, one could be tempted to argue that no Japanese women, even non-models, are un-skinny. Which, actually, is a big fat lie. I can tell you that because I just came back from my gym, where I shared a shower room with a dozen or so women of all shapes.
Where is our reality?
